CODE Robotics Launch 2017 at NPSS

On February 2, teachers from schools across the SCDSB came together to continue our learning about the impact of classroom-integrated robotics on the development of 21st century competencies and STEAM education. An overview of our day: slides with agenda and resources and a summary of Tweets.

Learning Together
Our day kicked off with a workshop facilitated by Logics Academy, during which teachers built and programmed a Lego EV3 robot. See more EV3 resources here.

Through discussion, we shared ideas for robot management, resources, solutions for challenges and ideas for moving forward with robotics in our classrooms.

During breakout, groups in the afternoon teachers had the opportunity to further explore robotics and coding. Check out the carousel stations:
Thank you to the facilitators from Logics Academy, Stu Burnie and Chris Rutledge, Melissa and Amy from the Innisfil ideaLAB and Mat Reive for sharing their learning and extending our thinking. We would also like to thank the teachers who explored, wondered and reflected with us.

Learn and Connect with us...
Throughout this inquiry, we will be partnering with the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) and a research team from the University of Waterloo to learn more about the impact of robotics as a learning tool in our classrooms.

Over the next few months, students and teachers will document their learning using this blog, our collaborative learning story and Twitter. Anyone can follow the inquiry by clicking on the hashtag #SCDSBbot.

We encourage all students and educators across the SCDSB to share their robotics learning and questions with us using the hashtag #SCDSBbot.
